Rejuvenate: A TrulyFood Spring Cleanse FAQ

Your Questions Answered

7 Days to a Lighter, Happier You

Wow! The response to the TrulyFood seasonal cleanses continues to grow. We're hoping that you'll join us for the Rejuvenate Cleanse too because we've designed this cleanse specifically with your busy lifestyle in mind. It's doable, yet it's a real cleanse; one week of true detoxification. What that means will be slightly different for everyone. We've set it up with three options so you can choose your own adventure and find the level appropriate for your body, your health situation, your desires, and your lifestyle. The particulars for those options will be explained in detail in the tele-class on

Saturday, May 11th at 9am PST / 12pm EST.

But we're going to sketch it out for you here because we know you might need some help hopping off the fence.

Read on for more information about Rejuvenate: A Spring Cleanse!

How is a spring cleanse different from cleanses during other seasons?

Your body is governed by nature. Fall is a time of gathering. Winter a time of storing. And spring. . . spring is the time of releasing. We release burdens and heaviness in preparation for new life and inspiration. To harness the natural rhythms of the season, you can engage in a spring cleanse to quiet your dietary input, lighten the load on your internal organs ~ particularly your liver because its your primary organ of detoxification! ~ and welcome the internal awakenings of the season.

Will I be eating, or only drinking?

Well, this depends. We've set up Rejuvenate with several cleansing options. (Though we often promote eating!):

  • Option 3: Mostly blended smoothies, soups, puddings, and green juices with TWO solid food meal/day.
  • Option 2: Mostly blended smoothies, soups, puddings, and green juices with ONE solid food meal/day.
  • Option 1: All blended smoothies, soups, puddings, and green juices.

[And there's the option for tapering, as we'll explain in class.]

"I feel so much more peaceful and connected to ME."

I bought a thermos and filled it with the winter veggie soup to take with me to an all-day meeting in Seattle yesterday and that worked great. I'm eating yummy salads for dinner. I have lost several pounds, which makes me thrilled and I'm managing a full work day and playing soccer at night. I am excited to feel this good. I feel so much more peaceful and connected to ME. A big thank you to Andrea and Andrea for this great new journey in my life. Yippee Skippee!

"It's so good to know that we can actually make room for ourselves and our needs every now and then."

How do I know what is best for me??

We will review details in class. The class will be the time to learn more about the different options, and determine which course is right for you given your detox desires and health status. Or, you may already know the answer!

Will there be special ingredients required for the cleanse?

This is a whole-foods, plant-based cleanse. The use of fats (other than seeds, avocados, small amounts of select oils and plant-based essential fatty acids) will be eliminated, as will animal proteins. Don't worry! You can do this. We'll support you every step of the way. And remember, it's just one week. This is the best way to support the detox pathways, and give your liver the rest it needs to regenerate for the season and year ahead.

You can buy everything you need at the farmer's market and your health food store of choice.

That said, there will be some superfoods and herbs that are recommended but not required. These include our preferred protein powder, some minerals and liver supporting herbal blends. They're suggested to support your energy levels throughout the cleanse. We have a TrulyFood Spring Cleanse marketplace set up so that you can buy the items that you choose to include in your cleanse online or use the page as a grocery list to stock up on your desired superfoods in advance. You'll receive a link to that marketplace upon registration.

The final cost of the cleanse, besides the $147 cost of the program and your groceries, depends on your budgetary considerations and your detoxification goals. All options provide a complete and efficient cleansing experience.

Will the cleanse require extra prep time?

If you don't need to prepare food for anyone but yourself, NO. It won't take any extra time than usual food prep takes ~ likely even less since most of the meals (though incredibly delicious) require only chopping and blending.

However, if you have to prepare food for anyone other than yourself, then YES. You will be making separate meals for yourself. And while they don't take much time, there is a bit of a paradigm shift in this type of food prep. More bulky produce to fill the fridge, more chopping, less cooking.

In previous cleanses, many folks decided to embark on the cleanse with neighbors, friends or classmates. This allows you to trade off food preparation each day. Every other day one prepares dinner for the two families. Alternately, on that same night, the other prepares the cleanse meal. Enlist your friends and neighbors.

This is a great way to cleanse because it gives you added support!

And the best thing to remember is that for this week you have the gift of an extra responsibility. Many of us are ready to host sleepovers, watch neighbor's dogs or cats, or even get new pets in their infancy. This week the added responsibility is YOU. You get to tend to yourself with a little added care and attention. And YOU truly deserve it!

"The cleanse made me aware of things I could change in my everyday diet to support my health."

While I have always eaten a fairly healthy and balanced diet with lots of veggies and an occasional slug of greens in water, I really enjoy the opportunity to take it deeper with the week long TrulyFood cleanses each season. It's a new way for me to think about the changing of the outer and inner worlds through the year. I will admit that it's hard for me to even go seven days on that stringent of a diet, but this last cleanse I was able to accompany my wife for the entire week because the food is so good and its all laid out so simply. During my first TrulyFood cleanse I uncovered a gluten intolerance - my first beer after the cleanse resulted in a small patch of hives! While this was not exactly pleasant it was a bit of a personal physiological revelation that has enabled me to better support my health and energy to keep up with a busy career and three kids. I'm ultimately grateful that the cleanse made me aware of things I could change in my everyday diet to support my health.

Can I cleanse while working?

Absolutely. The first two to three days of a cleanse can always be a bit draining. We'll give tips during the class about how to mitigate any fatigue or detox symptoms, as well as how to support your body through any of the stresses that might occur during detox. By the third to fourth day most folks feel extra energy.

All that said, if it's possible to slow life down a bit that week, that would be ideal (but not necessary). Make less commitments, try to get more quiet time, get to bed early, and take your work-out routine down a notch or two. Most importantly, engage the help of partners, friends, neighbors, and children to help you through the week.

Both of us are busy working moms. We've cleansed through all sorts of busy weeks. We've outlined the cleanse so that you can do some prep the weekend before it starts (after attending or hearing the class) and also do some advance prep each night for the day ahead.

Can I cleanse if just getting over a seasonal cold or flu?

This is a great question. From the Ayurvedic perspective on the seasons, winter holds a lot of kapha energy. Kapha is the dosha, or constitutional element, that holds the most heaviness and weight. Spring is the season of vatta, which means light and wind-like. So from this lens, seasonal colds and flus are often a result of your body's inability to shift the weight of winter. It's actually a great time to embark upon a nutrient dense cleanse such as this one!

Will I take my usual herbs, vitamins, and supplements during the cleanse?

This really depends on what you're taking and why. We'll address this in more detail during the class. Pharmaceuticals prescribed by your doctor, remain a constant while cleansing.

What kind of equipment will I need?

  • blender
  • nut mylk bag (if you don't already own one, you can get them at People's Food Co-Op, Mirador on Division and 20th in PDX or order now from Sunfood to have in time for the cleanse)
  • food processor (blender OK, if you only have one)
  • spiralizer (optional--cheese grater will work if you don't have one)

When's the class?

Saturday
May 11th
9am PST / 12pm EST

What if I can't come to the Saturday class? (My schedule doesn't allow, I'll be in Paris, I live in NY, etc.) Easy. There will be a recording of the class for everyone who purchases the cleanse. This also allows you to do the cleanse at another time, if the planned week doesn't work in your schedule. If this is you, you won't have the support of the on-line forum, but you will have access to the forum to see how others might have handled your same issues or questions.

We highly recommend that you do not try to do the cleanse without listening to the class.

Is the food any good?

Just wait and see! Cleansing has never tasted so good. Andrea L is one of the most talented chefs I know. The food is delicious! You're cleansing and it's yummy at the same time. The folks who experience TrulyFood Cleanses rave about the recipes. Many of them continue to eat the meals from the cleanse on a regular basis post cleanse. So get ready to boost your recipe toolbox in a big way!

"I was worried that I would be hungry all the time, but my experience has been quite the opposite. I feel very satiated and in fact can't even finish some meals."

I am a girl who LOVES to eat. I also like big portions (I eat the same portions as my 220 lb husband!) and belong to The Clean Plate Club. This may have been cute in my 20s, but has caught up with me in my 30s, which is why a week of mindful eating really appealed to me. I was worried that I would be hungry all the time, but my experience has been quite the opposite. I feel very satiated and in fact can't even finish some meals. Granted, the fact that I don't do caffeine and I already eat a mostly vegetarian diet may have helped with the transition, but I still had to wave b-bye to a highly carb, cheese and wine filled existence. Andreas, this can clearly be attributed to the wonderful protocol and delicious fiber-rich recipes you have designed to nourish, satisfy and delight us. Thank you so much for making this opportunity available to us and for providing a community support forum in order to guide and deepen our experiences. Time to write a book, ladies!

Can I do this cleanse?

Yes, you can! Almost everyone can. This cleanse is not designed to be hard on your body, in fact it's meant to ease the burdens we put on our bodies daily. It's designed to:

  • provide the digestive system with a rest from hard to digest foods
  • encourage the liver to find built-up stores of toxins to eliminate
  • afford the liver and gallbladder a necessary break from dealing with fats
  • reduce the toxic load
  • abate cravings
  • increase nutrients through beneficial and nutritious food intake
  • set the reset button for your body to do it's job faster and better

There's enough variation in the protocol to make it work for you.

This is a phenomenal seasonal gift to give yourself.
